Stewart McKelvey has been named one of the top 50 Best Employers in Canada by global HR consulting firm, AON Hewitt. The ranking measures employee engagement by exploring employees’ commitment to staying with an organization, saying great things about their organization, and striving to excel within the organization, along with 21 other indicators.
“We initially set out on this journey with staff in 2011 to gain a deeper understanding of how we could further Stewart McKelvey’s commitment to Service First not only for our clients, but for our employees as well,” said John Rogers, CEO, Stewart McKelvey. “Our goal then was, and is now, to gain a deeper understanding of how we can continue to enhance our offering as a top employer.”
In 2014, Stewart McKelvey exceeded the average score of participating law firms and the Canadian national average due, in part, to the firm’s commitment to:
- providing transparency and opportunity for input through semi-annual town hall meetings for staff, quarterly meetings for lawyers and regularly scheduled retreats that are not only informative, but fun
- offering a generous benefit plan funded largely by the firm that includes a 100 per cent firm-paid medical and dental plan for families, life insurance, a health and wellness plan, and matching pension or RRSP contribution
- encouraging contribution to the community via its Corporate Social Responsibility Program that focuses on community investment, diversity, pro bono initiatives, and sustainability
