Cutting through the red tape.
Running a business isn’t easy for many reasons, including the multiple and overlapping legal obligations that businesses have to abide by at both the common law and legislative levels. By listening to the client’s immediate concerns and goals and having background knowledge of their business, John assesses the risks involved and ways to mitigate them, provides options for review and makes recommendations on a preferred approach.
Representative matters
With 35 years of experience practicing law, John’s clients include retailers, service providers, universities and educational institutions, manufacturers, and health care and mining firms. Some of the ways he has helped these clients are by:
- Advising a national employer on terminations resulting from the contracting out of cleaning services.
- Representing various employers and organizations responding to human rights complaints.
- Acting for an employer with operations in many provinces in developing a drug and alcohol policy.
- Representing an employer in a labour arbitration where an employee was dismissed for sick leave fraud and the arbitrator upheld the dismissal relying in part on video surveillance.
