To Scott, communication is key. He treats his clients as if they are part of the team and keeps them well-informed and welcomes their feedback. Depending on the particular needs of a client, Scott aims to apply a sophisticated understanding of the facts and the law to the practical realities of the circumstances they face.

Representative matters

Scott works with a diverse group of clients which include insurers, hospitals and health authorities, pharmaceutical companies, shipping lines, government agencies, educational institutions and real estate developers. Some of the ways he has helped his clients are by:
  • Assisting with the successful jurisdictional challenge of a proposed pharmaceutical class action suit before the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia.
  • Arguing for the pre-trial exclusion of expert evidence and a proposed expert report on the eve of a lengthy trial.
  • Participating in a number of large-scale mediations, arbitrations and settlements in complex commercial and insurance-related disputes.
  • Routinely advising on matters of jurisdiction, private international law, constitutional law, procedural and appellate strategy.
