Halifax litigation partner Christa Brothers, QC is the recipient of a 2014 Progress Women of Excellence Award, in the category of Management and the Professions.
Given by the Canadian Progress Club Halifax Cornwallis, this award honours the extraordinary contributions by women in Nova Scotia whose works have made powerful impacts on their industry and community. The recipients will be honoured at a fundraising gala on November 19, 2014 at the World Trade and Convention Centre, marking the 25th year of this event. To date, this gala has raised over $1 million for Phoenix Youth programs - a long-term shelter for homeless and at-risk youth.
Christa has been actively involved both at Stewart McKelvey and in her community. She is currently on the Board of the Canada Games Centre, a member of the firm's Partnership Board, and serves as a mentor to young lawyers inside and outside the firm.
Since 2009, Christa has been a council member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society and in June 2014, she was appointed Chair of the Complaints Investigation Committee. She has also chaired the Court of Appeal Liaison Committee, which is focusing on increasing access to justice for Nova Scotians.
Christa has been repeatedly listed by Best Lawyers in Canada© in the practice areas of Corporate and Commercial Litigation, Insurance Law and Personal Injury Litigation. In 2008, Lexpert recognized her as Lexpert's Rising Star, 'Top 40 Leading Lawyers Under 40' in Canada and mentioned her as 'Litigator to Watch' in 2009. In addition, she was awarded her Queen's counsel designation in January 2014.
