Stewart McKelvey Chief Executive Officer John Rogers, QC was recently named to the Board of Trustees for the new Legal Leaders for Diversity Trust Fund.
This Fund will provide annual scholarships to support disabled youth who are studying law in Canada, to give equal access to a legal education while advancing diversity in law faculties.
These scholarships give financial assistance to students with physical, mental, intellectual or sensory disabilities for both undergraduate and graduate studies in Canadian law faculties. From 2014-2015, up to eight scholarships ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 will be awarded per academic year. To date, $210,000 has been raised by over 40 general counsel and managing partners from corporations and law firms from coast to coast, who gave $5,000 each to the Trust Fund.
John is very involved in his community - in 2012/2013, he served as campaign co-chair of United Way of Halifax Region, and currently sits on boards for the Junior Achievement of Canada Foundation and Acadia University. John has also served as chair of the IWK Health Centre and the Halifax Chamber of Commerce, and was the corporate campaign chair of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk to Cure Diabetes.
We congratulate John on his new position.
