Stewart McKelvey is pleased to announce that Moncton-based partner and member of Stewart McKelvey's Partnership Board, Bâtonnière Marie-Claude Bélanger-Richard, QC, has been elected President of the Council of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada, the governing body of the Federation, responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of the organization.
Admitted to the New Brunswick Bar in 1986 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2003, Marie-Claude — who specializes in civil litigation, family law and insurance law — has an extensive history of achievement as a member of the Law Society of New Brunswick. She was Bâtonnière of the Law Society of New Brunswick in 2010-2011. Elected as a Federation Council member by the Law Society of New Brunswick in November 2009, Marie-Claude served as Vice-President of the Federation Council for 2012-2013.
As President, she will lead the Federation Council’s Executive Committee, consisting of the Vice-Presidents and President Elect, for a one-year rotation.
