: Stewart McKelvey Donates $25,000 to Local YMCA Campaign

March 4, 2010

On February 23, at a presentation ceremony in our Fredericton office, Stewart McKelvey donated $25,000 to support the Your New Y capital campaign in Fredericton.  In line with the firm's value statement, Stewart McKelvey strives to be actively involved in community organizations.  In announcing the donation, Chief Executive Officer John Rogers, Q.C., said, “Our communities are important to us and we will always contribute to their growth.  With this donation, we are assisting the YMCA of Fredericton construct a multi-purpose facility, to accommodate the needs of our growing city and its surrounding communities, as the Y continues to build strong kids, families and communities.”

The Fredericton YMCA has served the community for more than 152 years and, for the past 50 years, it has been doing so from its Saunders St. location.  Due to substantial growth in the last ten years, this has resulted in overcrowding and significant waiting lists for many of its programs, in particular, the child development and sports programs.  A decision was made to build a new facility and, in addition to donations from other generous businesses, the municipal government, a land donation by the Government of New Brunswick and a grant of $5.2 million dollars from the Government of Canada, Stewart McKelvey has committed to helping with this project.  The total anticipated cost of the project is $19 million.
