This summer, seven organizations came together to help a local family realize their dream of home ownership. For five months, employees of Crombie REIT, EastLink, Emera Inc., KPMG, Royal Bank of Canada, Scotia Investments and Stewart McKelvey, along with Habitat for Humanity HRM, were hard at work building a house in Spryfield, Nova Scotia. Each sponsoring partner contributed $10,000 to the Habitat for Humanity project.
The home now belongs to Nicole Farmer, a single mother of two children and a front-line non-profit worker. The family received the keys to their new home on November 28.
“On behalf of our team, we are proud and excited to work with Habitat for Humanity to make the dream of home ownership a reality for the Farmer family,” says Stewart McKelvey’s Chief Executive Officer John Rogers, Q.C. “The employees of our sponsorship group are proud to have made a lasting contribution to our community.”
Habitat for Humanity HRM is a community-based, non-profit organization with a mission to build affordable housing and promote homeownership as a means to break the cycle of poverty. Homeowner families are chosen based on the need for affordable housing, the ability to repay a Habitat, no-interest mortgage, and the willingness to partner with Habitat.
Stewart McKelvey is one of Canada’s 20 largest firms, with over 220 lawyers and 350 staff in six offices across the region.
