St. John’s Partner Rodney Zdebiak awarded the Honourable Robert Wells, QC Award for valuable contributions to community

We are pleased to announce that St. John’s Partner, Rodney Zdebiak, has been awarded the Honourable Robert Wells, QC Award in recognition of his valuable contributions to community.

A respected member of the legal community in Newfoundland and Labrador, Rod’s practice includes representing clients from the insurance sector, universities, and families in the areas of insurance defence, professional regulation, real property, education and human rights.

The Honourable Robert Wells, QC Award (previously known as the Distinguished Public Service Award), is awarded by the Newfoundland and Labrador Branch of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA-NL). Established in 2000, it has been awarded to a CBA-NL member who has demonstrated “exceptional contributions and/or achievements volunteering their time or skills for the betterment of the community, a non-profit organization or charity.”

A strong and ardent supporter of arts and culture in the province, Rod has devoted countless volunteer hours to many organizations and causes, including the Sound Arts Initiative – an opportunity for artists from Newfoundland and Labrador of all ages and levels of experience to connect with world-renowned composers, musicians, filmmakers and other artists. Rod has served on their Board of Directors for many years, including his current role as Co-Chair, and in many other volunteer capacities for more than 30 years. He has also volunteered his time and expertise to other organizations, including roles on the Board of Directors with Junior Achievement of Newfoundland and Labrador, Easter Seals Newfoundland and Labrador, and Computers for Schools NL. In addition, he was Chair of the CBA-NL Young Lawyers Conference, has served on the Board of Commissioners for Legal Aid NL, and became Chair of the Legal Aid NL Appeal Board in 2021. He has also served as a member of the Canadian Association for the Practical Study of Law and Education.

Congratulations Rod on this wonderful achievement.
