: J. Scott MacKenzie, Q.C., receives Canadian Bar Association's Distinguished Service Award

J. Scott MacKenzie, Q.C. of Charlottetown is the recipient of the Prince Edward Island Branch of the Canadian Bar Association's 2010-2011 Distinguished Service Award. Branch President Nancy Birt presented the award at the joint Law Society of Prince Edward Island and CBA PEI Branch Annual Mid-Winter Dinner on Friday, January 28, 2011.

The CBA Distinguished Service Award is presented to a Branch member in appreciation for service to the CBA and the larger community.

Mr. MacKenzie, a partner in the Charlottetown office of the law firm of Stewart McKelvey, is a graduate of the University of Prince Edward Island. He attended law school at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS, graduating in 1981 with his law degree. Mr. MacKenzie was called to the Prince Edward Island Bar in 1982.

Active in both the local and national activities of the CBA, Mr. MacKenzie has served in every executive position of the Prince Edward Island Branch. He is a past Chair of the National Young Lawyers Conference and former member of both the National Executive, Governance and Review Committee, and the Finance and Planning Directorate. He is also a former Director of the Canadian Bar Insurance Association. Mr. MacKenzie has also been active in the activities of the Law Society of Prince Edward Island, having served as Chair of its Discipline Committee.

Mr. MacKenzie is an active volunteer in the community. He is currently the President of Downtown Charlottetown Inc. He is a former President of the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce and the University of Prince Edward Island Alumni Association. He is a former Chair of the Professional Division Campaign of the United Way of Prince Edward Island and has held numerous other volunteer roles.
