: New Counsel appointed to Stewart McKelvey

Stewart McKelvey is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert G. MacKeigan, Q.C. as counsel to the firm effective September 1, 2011.

Robbie MacKeigan will continue his practice in corporate and commercial law with an emphasis on banking and insolvency.  He is listed as a leading practitioner by the publication “The Best Lawyers in Canada,” for his practice in banking law, corporate law, derivatives law and insolvency and financial restructuring.  He was named as “Halifax Best Lawyers insolvency and Financial Restructuring Lawyer of the Year in 2011” and is also recognized in the Lexpert/American Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada.

Robbie is the current chair of the Law Foundation of Nova Scotia, a past president of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society (“NSBS”), past chair of the Canadian Law Information Council, a past chair of the Canadian Bar Association - Nova Scotia Branch, and is a fellow of the Insolvency Institute of Canada.  He is also this year’s recipient of the NSBS Distinguished Service Award.

He is a graduate of Dalhousie University law school and also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of London.

Robbie joins Stewart McKelvey after over 40 years with another regional law firm in Atlantic Canada.
