: Partner Richard Niedermayer, TEP, quoted in Canadian Lawyer article

October 6, 2015

Richard Niedermayer, TEP, shared some of his thoughts on the proposed changes to the Income Tax Act for the Canadian Lawyer article, Taxing changes, by Marg. Bruineman.

This piece describes the changing future of estate planning in Canada, which will be a "whole new world" beginning January 1, 2016. With trusts no longer the most effective tax-savings tool for the wealthy, Richard states, "the question becomes what could you do or should you do differently than before." He notes that these changes will shift the way lawyers plan future client situations and believes that there will be an increase in court-ordered variations for collapsing trusts as a result of the marginal tax rate elimination.
