: Client Update - Foreign Worker Protections Introduced by Nova Scotia, Bill 53

On May 4, 2011, the Government of Nova Scotia introduced Bill 53, a series of amendments to the Labour Standards Code (the "Code") intended to offer greater protection for foreign workers.  Bill 53 passed second reading on May 6, 2011 and has been referred to the Law Amendments' Committee.

Changes introduced by Bill 53 include a new requirement that employers who recruit and employ foreign workers register with the Province, and a new requirement that recruiters of foreign workers be licensed.
