Candace L. Thomas, QC, makes history as first woman Chair of Dalhousie University’s Board of Governors
Halifax partner Candace L. Thomas, QC, has been appointed as Chair of the Board of Governors of Dalhousie University, effective July 1, 2019, and will be the first woman to hold this role in the university’s 200 year history. Candace will take over as Chair from fellow Stewart McKelvey partner Lawrence Stordy, QC, who has held the position since 2014.
Since her graduation from Dalhousie University Law School, Candace has been an active member of the institution’s community and governance, currently serving as Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of the Board’s Governance and Human Resources Committee. Candace is a champion of literacy and equality initiatives through her previous and current work with the Black Business Initiative Society, the Halifax Central Library, the East Preston Empowerment Academy Society and as Co-Chair of Stewart McKelvey’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
