Candace L. Thomas, QC, receives 2017 Community Service Award

Halifax partner Candace L. Thomas, QC, has been chosen as the recipient of the Canadian Bar Association Nova Scotia Branch 2017 Community Service Award. This recognition is given to one individual each year who has made significant contributions to the community, including to a charitable cause, at the local, provincial or federal level.

In addition to her legal practice, Candace Co-Chairs Stewart McKelvey’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. She is a current member of the Governance and Nominating Committee, as well as the Hearing Committee of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society, and a member of the Dalhousie University Board of Governors. Candace’s community service has been guided by the goals of championing literacy and social equality through her fundraising work as Co-Chair of the Halifax Central Library’s Capital Campaign; supporting women leaders through the Atlantic Canada Chapter of the International Women’s Forum; and giving back to her home community of East Preston and greater Black Nova Scotian community, through the East Preston Empowerment Academy. For these and many other outstanding achievements, Candace received her Queen’s Counsel designation in February 2017.
