Chief Innovation Officer and Partner Paul Saunders interviewed by Canadian Lawyer on innovating throughout the pandemic
In a recently published article on Canadian Lawyer, Paul Saunders spoke with author Tim Wilbur to discuss how he came to be the Firm’s Chief Innovation Officer and Partner, and how the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated Stewart McKelvey’s practice innovation strategy.
With a background in technology and business, Paul, with the support of Firm leadership, saw an opportunity to embrace practice innovation full-time in 2016: “I felt that utilizing my background and in all these other disciplines and merging the practice of law with the innovation side of things was the right choice for me.” The Firm’s focus on process improvement, project management and technology became critically important when the legal landscape shifted at the onset of COVID-19, and client needs had to be met in a different way. Through the use of innovative tools and techniques, Stewart McKelvey was able to anticipate what was going to be required, and adapt accordingly.
