: Halifax associate Tanya Butler, TEP, quoted in CBC article on accessing digital material after death

May 11, 2015

Estate lawyer Tanya Butler, TEP, was interviewed for the CBC article, Facebook account for Joanne MacLean's dead son still online, by David Burke.

Tanya states that it is becoming increasingly frequent for individuals to be unable to access the digital accounts of their loved ones after death and the law in Canada surrounding this issue is still changing. When clients have taken steps to try and remove the online content, Tanya notes, "some of them have tried to contact service providers and will often give up because they end up going through an awful lot of red tape."

Tanya was also interviewed on this topic for a CBC News: Halifax story (piece begins at 3 minutes, 25 seconds).
