Candace Thomas inspires legal minds during recent community workshop
Residents in East Preston, Nova Scotia and surrounding communities were given a glimpse into various areas of law at a workshop hosted by the East Preston Empowerment Academy, Saturday, May 28. The information session, You and the Law – Become Informed, was sponsored by Stewart McKelvey.
Partner Candace Thomas helped organize this event and as one of the five presenters, spoke on the topic of business law basics. The day featured presentations covering such topics as land titles clarification, estate planning, constitutional rights, family law and access to law school. As Candace told CBC News reporter Steve Berry, she hopes that this session helped the more than 30 individuals in attendance see the options available to them – “when they require legal services, they know where to go.” For the younger faces in the crowd, Candace and her fellow presenters offered mentorship opportunities to assist those who, after the session, noted that they could see themselves as lawyers one day.
