Charlottetown partner Jonathan Coady appointed Queen’s Counsel
Charlottetown partner Jonathan Coady has received the prestigious Queen’s Counsel designation. The distinction of Queen’s Counsel is given to experienced lawyers in recognition of their commitment to the legal profession and contributions to their communities.
“Congratulations to Jonathan. Receiving the Queen’s Counsel designation is the highest honour a lawyer can receive in their field. Jonathan’s many contributions in the field of law and to communities in Canada and Prince Edward Island will have a positive, enduring impact for generations to come.”
– Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General Bloyce Thompson said in a press release.
Jonathan is a graduate of the University of Cambridge with a Master of Laws (LLM, 2009) and Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB, 2006). He was called to the bar in both Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia in 2007. After being called to the bar, Jonathan served as a law clerk to the Honourable Justice Eleanor Dawson in Ottawa. Working in the Charlottetown office, Jonathan practices primarily in the area of public law litigation, representing individuals, government agencies and regulated entities before courts and tribunals. He was recently named “Lawyer of the Year” in Charlottetown by Best Lawyers (2020) for Corporate and Commercial Litigation. Jonathan has previously been recognized by Best Lawyers for Appellate Practice (2020), Administrative and Public Law (2019, 2020), and Corporate and Commercial Litigation (2019, 2020). He is also a lecturer at the University of Prince Edward Island in the Department of Political Science, an advocacy advisor for the Supreme Court Advocacy Institute, a member of the Rules of Court Committee in Prince Edward Island, and a co-lecturer in Supreme Court Practice at the Prince Edward Island Bar Admission Course. Jonathan is a former member of the management team in Charlottetown.
Jonathan will be formally recognized for the Queen’s Counsel designation at Government House by Her Honour, the Honourable Antoinette Perry, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island.
