CTV Atlantic interviews Burtley Francis on the battle over privacy
CTV Atlantic News Live at Five aired a segment on Thursday, February 18 which featured Halifax associate Burtley Francis commenting on the security risks surrounding the recent FBI request to Apple: unlock the phone of an alleged terrorist involved in the San Bernadino shooting.
Burtlley believes that Apple is within its rights to oppose the order, noting there could be significant legal implications if customer information was compromised. He sees this as a “precedent-setting case” that Canadians will pay attention to, considering there will “always be an underlying consideration of an individual’s right to privacy” that’s built into the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The CTV Atlantic clip can be seen here; Burtley’s thoughts begin at 1 minute, 48 seconds.
