Nico Jones explains the importance of diversity initiatives at university
In the second episode of The Deep Dive, Dalhousie University’s 12th president and vice-chancellor Deep Saini sat down with Halifax associate Nico Jones to discuss how the diverse initiatives on campus, specifically the Black Student Advising Centre (“BSAC”), helped him during his time at school.
Nico states that BSAC gave him the opportunity to meet people in different faculties and build connections that otherwise he would not have been able to make. When asked why it’s important to have these kinds of centres on university campuses, Nico responds, “it gives different groups of people a home away from home … it gives them somewhere to go where they might see people who either follow the same religion or who look like them … within an environment which at times is definitely daunting.”
