Partner Geoffrey Machum, QC, elected chair of Stewart McKelvey Partnership Board
Geoffrey Machum, QC, has been elected chair of the Partnership Board, effective January 1, 2016. A member of the Partnership Board since 2008, and a senior partner specializing in commercial litigation, Geoff is past chair of the Halifax Port Authority, a current director on the board of DHX Media and a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Geoff succeeds Paul Smith who also joined the Partnership Board in 2008 and became its chair in 2011. Paul’s extensive experience providing legal counsel to public pension plans, investment managers and transnational trust companies, provided him with unique experience and insights into the governance issues of complex, multi-faceted organizations.
“As chair of the Partnership Board, Paul helped bring the firm to a position of financial and organizational strength,” said Lydia Bugden, CEO and Managing Partner. “It is on this solid footing that we continue to respond to changes in the business community and how we deliver legal services locally, nationally and internationally. Geoff’s experience governing Atlantic Canadian organizations with expansive, geographic reaches will help him to guide the firm in its next stage of growth.”
