Three Halifax Partners appointed King’s Counsel

We are pleased to announce that three Halifax Partners have been appointed King’s Counsel.

– Burtley Francis
– Colin Piercey
– Rebecca Saturley

The announcement was made yesterday by Nova Scotia Attorney General and Justice Minister Brad Johns. This prestigious honour is awarded to those who have made exceptional contributions and shown remarkable merit within the legal community.

Burtley Francis is a leader in corporate and commercial law and media, advertising and marketing law. Called to the bar in 2008, Burtley holds degrees from the University of Ottawa and Dalhousie University. He has been recognized nationally by Lexpert®  and received their ‘Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40” award in 2022. In addition to playing leadership and mentoring roles inside the Firm as a Co-chair of the Student Committee, Burtley volunteers a great deal of time to community organizations including as a current Board Member with the Black Business Initiative, and a former member of the Board of Governors of Mount Saint Vincent University.

Colin Piercey is a leader in construction law, environmental and natural resources law and has worked alongside contractors, developers, engineers and insurers. A graduate of Dalhousie University and Osgoode Hall Law School, Colin was called to the bar in Ontario in 1998 and Nova Scotia in 2001. As Chair of the Firm’s Practice Innovation Advisory Committee, Colin has demonstrated his leadership and commitment to new and innovative approaches to the practice of law. He has repeatedly been recognized by Best Lawyers® and Lexpert®, and won “Lawyer of the Year – Litigation” in Halifax with Benchmark Canada in 2019. Colin is also committed to supporting growth in his community having served as member and former Chair of Board of Directors with the Canada Games Centre.

Rebecca Saturley, is Managing Partner in our Halifax office. With degrees from Memorial University and University of New Brunswick, Rebecca was called to the bar in 1997. Rebecca is a leader in labour and employment law and has been recognized nationally by Chambers and Partners, Best Lawyers®, Lexpert®, and is the first woman from Atlantic Canada to be recognized as a Fellow of the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers which celebrates some of North America’s most accomplished members in the labour and employment law. In addition to her labour practice, Rebecca has extensive experience acting in workplace investigations. Outside of her professional pursuits, Rebecca is active in her community. She is a former member and chair of Feed Nova Scotia, as well as the former chair of the Facilities Committee at the Sacred Heart School of Halifax.
